We all seem to have lives that keep us busy between family and job obligations. Therefore, planning for the aging population tends not to be in the forefront of our daily lives.
The old adage, “it if’s not broken don’t fix it”. This does not work when it comes to our aging parents. In the drop of a hat there will be a fall that turns into a broken hip or high blood pressure that will turn into a stroke or heart attack. Life as you know it will change drastically.
Medical decisions will have to be made and made immediately. Living arrangements will have to be changed. There may be important steps that will have to be taken to insure an aging parent’s wellbeing. Going to the grocery store for them can be a daunting task.
Planning ahead, having that “hard” conversation, will benefit your family in the end. There is so much to take care of and plan because when you realize that your aging parent needs help it will be the inappropriate time.
